Job Shadowing in Milan, Day Two 14/04

Imagen
In the very early hours of the morning, we took the bus to high school Pietro Verri. Both teachers and students were kindly waiting for us. After a really nice welcoming they showed us their facilities, focusing on the most interesting rooms and aspects of their day to day. The Italian students were the ones giving the different explanations each time. After that, we took the metro to go to The Duomo,  the amazing cathedral in Milan; Vittorio Emanuele II Gallery,  where we could see all the major luxury brands and also the Church Santa María Presso San Satiro where the genius architect Bramante designed an altar of 97 cm width creating an optical illusion making you believe it is metres when you look facing it!

Milan, Day 2 14/04

We started the day early by heading to the school, where we met some students and teachers who gave us a tour of the campus—it had so much to see, and we really liked it. Later on, we went to the center of Milan; there, we visited the Duomo, the Galleria, and the Church of San Satiro, while the students explained the history and significance of the monuments to us. Afterward, the students left, and we split up to get some lunch. Right next to where we were eating, we found a café for a sweet treat that was themed after Alice in Wonderland. We continued wandering through the downtown streets, visiting shops and monuments that caught our eye. As it got closer to the time to leave, we headed back to the Galleria and did the "famous" three spins on the bull. After a long day, we had dinner at a restaurant near the hotel, enjoying some pasta dishes and sharing pizzas.

We started our day by taking a bus towards the amazing central Milano station, where took a train to the lovely and pintoresque city of Bergamo. We enjoyed the food, the true Italian "gelato" and the magnificient monuments and views of città alta. We have visited Santa María  la Maggiore Church  and we could appreciate the tapestries, frescos and fully ornamented walls and ceiling. Just next to it, we were surprised by the Mathematical treasure humbly placed opposite this collosal work of art: The Meridiana, an amazing work  of ancient engineering engraved on a marble plate, made in 1780 by the Mathematician and astronomer Gian Antonio Calegari. It's a fantastic landmark in the city which shows the relation between the seasons, the horoscope,    months , days and time, and the infinite sign. Extremely interesting if you like these topics.

Our first day of the trip has been super fun and a little chaotic. We arrived in Milan yesterday, and this morning after breakfast at the hotel we went to the central station to catch a train to Bergamo. When we got there, we had lunch and then started walking to the upper part of the city… which basically felt like climbing a thousand hills. Our legs are still crying, but the views made it worth it. The best (and scariest) moment was entering a church and seeing a coffin with a super realistic mask on top. For a second we thought it was an actual person and we ran out faster than we climbed the hills. We also visited a really beautiful basilica, ate some real Italian gelato (the good kind), and some people even tried riding bikes. At one point we started dancing sevillanas and people who weren’t even Spanish began recording us. Honestly, iconic.
